You made my day Mr. Apis

Freshly returned from my weekly trip to the organic market. I have filled my basket to the brim with fresh fruit and vegetables, and I often meet friends and have a little chat. Mr Apis came by while his wife was seeking for the fruits at the market. Last time I saw him at the clinic, he was recovering from a stroke, dragging his leg behind him, unable to find his words and was easily exhausted.

I have known Mr. Apis for nearly 9 years, where he came carrying 25 years of difficulties from painful catarrh in his bladder. He had gone through surgery three times, each time getting worse and worse. He had received enemas with chemotherapy in the bladder and been to many special clinics. He had a feeling that he was full of acid and inflammation on the inside, which affected his urination tracks and intestinal system. He had sought a solution for his condition for many years and was continuously told that he was mentally unstable. An examination of the large intestine showed that it was ‘merely’ irritated, and he was advised simply to eat plenty of fiber.

His gut was telling him that there was a connection between what he ate and his condition, as certains food groups made him feel more ill. He found no help. That is why he took it upon himself and found an article which I had written on pH balance and inflammation. As suspected, he was full of inflammation and not just in the bladder – his vitamin-D was barely existing and his Live Blood test showed large amounts of acid which had built up in the tissue. We started off with advice on nutrition: Lots of greens and less fruit which in large quantities form acidity in the body and therefore increase inflammation. A tailored anti-inflammatory diet slowly but surely got him back on his feet again. He experienced less and less pain and his bladder got increasingly better over time. He could now have a social life in which he did not have to go to the toilet all the time. As Mr. Apis says: “Everybody should know the connection between inflammation and illness, it would open many people’s eyes to the importance of nutrition”

Today he had walked to the market, a walk of about 2,5km. He talked a lot and I could hardly believe my own eyes and ears. He walks up the stairs to the 6th floor twice a day. Goes for a daily walk of about 5km. The other day when they had had guests over he had walked around town, about 20km, after which he felt a bit exhausted.

He maintains a focus on the importance of nutrition, and eagerly enjoys the green vegetables which contribute to maintaining the slightly alkaline design of the body. He is a sensitive soul, who enjoys recharging with music. Back in the old days he would feel bad with all the terrible news and if we started talking politics his blood pressure would rise tremendously in fury at all the craziness.

Today he is definitely not indifferent. On the contrary he focuses on his family and daily life which makes sense for him. Breathing exercises help his sensitive temperament. Being aware of one’s inhalation and exhalation for just some minutes gives peace and controlled relaxation. And in terms of focus. well, focus helps in putting on socks standing on one leg as this is quite a task after a stroke. He uses it as a physical exercise to better his motor skills and to enhance his concentration. He enjoys life with his sweet wife. Mr Apis is 83 years old, but age is not an obstacle.

Oh what a joy! I am truly thankful that you have taken a hold of your own life and are steering it with a steady hand. You made my day Mr. Apis. There is hope. You show with your attitude that it is not a matter of how we are, but instead how we take it. For me it is a joy to see what I most want to happen, happening successfully. As the seeds of health which I plant find a garden in which they grow and the plants are taken care of year after year after year.
