Changes in our society often start with the choices that we all make. Which environment do we wish to live in? What do we choose to eat? How do we choose to get rid of waste? How do we choose to engage in our local social communities? I believe that this film gives us HOPE, as so many good initiatives are taking place and that it matters.

”Tomorrow” is something so unusually wonderful as a documentary about our climate, which actually gives us hope.

Nothing is more important than for us to take a stand in terms of climate change, to how we live sustainably on Mother Earth in respectful collaboration with nature, which gives us our daily nutrition and warms us when its cold and cools us down when it is warm. Climate change and global warming are decaying the planet quicker than ever. ‘Tomorrow” shows us that if we take action now, we can turn it around before it is too late. It is quite a mouthful in one go. However maybe it doesn’t have to be so overwhelming. This documentary tackles climate change convincingly connecting it with agriculture, energy, economics, democracy and education through five well structured chapters.

The film is from 2015 and takes us around the world to show what can be done to limit global warming. We are for example shown Detroit in the United States, where they grow large organic gardens in the middle of the city. Also in Copenhagen we see how three quarters of the population owns a bicycle.

The film is eye-opening and it shows how much our planet is truly in danger and it gets one thinking about what it is necessary to do in order to maintain our societies. While many other films focusing on the same topics are told through ticking timebombs and a raised finger, this comes across as positive as it is told with energy and encouragement.

We follow the two Frenchmen: Mélanie Laurent and Cyril Dion. Together they start a movement to make the world a better place for their children. It is truly a film which allows one to take a stand and take action to make it better.

In Chapter 1 about Agriculture through different forms of permaculture, where the growths primarily last over multiple years and grow in correlation with each other. One garden of only 1000m2 has in the first year produced vegetables to the value of approx 32.000€ .

In Chapter 2 about Energy we look at how we can switch energy production from oil and coal to solar-, wind- and hydro-energy as well as biomass; looking at Danish windmills, bio gass and more. In San Francisco they are working on making the entire city ”zero waste”, meaning that all waste products are reduced, re-used or recycled.

In Chapter 3 about Economy we look at the economic diversity in society, where the economy is not based on loans and indebtedness, but functions through complementary local currency. The local currency cannot be speculated in and can only be used locally, by which it supports services, companies and employment opportunities in local communities.

In Chapter 4 about Democracy we look at societies with local councils where every citizen partakes in the decision making. Through this we are back to – or have moved forward to – the decentralised society, in which the citizens are ‘empowered’ and ARE the democracy instead of expecting the governing parties to fix everything. Everyone is involved, takes responsibility and helps in developing society over time.

In Chapter 5 about Education we take a trip to Finland where the teachers have a 5-year long university education with focus on a relaxed learning environment, different teaching methods and plenty of time to play and explore. The students learn basic life skills such as language, maths, culture, social interactions, maintenance of a household, craftwork, growing crops and more. On top of this school hours are shorter and usually without homework.
